The Advanced Informatics School Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM-AIS) and the REDtone IoT Sdn Bhd a subsidiary of REDtone International Bhd have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate as partners in spearheading the research and development activities involving the Internet of Things (IoT) technology.
The memorandum was signed by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ir. Datuk Dr. Wahid Omar who represented UTM, while RIOT was represented by its Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Mazlan Abbas witnessed by the Dean of UTM-AIS, Prof. Dr. Shamsul bin Sahibuddin and REDtone Group CEO Mr Lau Bik Soon. The event was held at the Dewan Seminar, Menara Razak Building, UTM Kuala Lumpur campus attended by high ranking officials and researchers from both organizations.
UTM AIS via its four research groups namely (a) Cyber-Physical Systems (b) Software for Trusted IoT Environment (c) Multimedia Protection and (d) Operations and Business Intelligence will be carrying out research and development projects with researchers from REDtone IOT involving the use of its IoT applications including CitiSense and CitiAct. Most of these projects will be directed towards secured authentic communications, overcoming critical issues (such as river overflowing) and social-physical impact of IoT on everyday living.

REDtone IoT was named “Malaysia Innovative Smart City Solution Provider of the Year” in 2016 by Frost & Sullivan and also received a Merit recognition in e-Government and Public sector category, APICTA 2016.
