There is always this confusion between the terms Industry 4.0, Industrial revolution 4.0 and also Society 5.0. And to some extent, some people also coined the term Industry Revolution 5.0 (IR 5.0). To understand better the various terms, we should go back to the history of these terms and who are actually promoting them.
We used to call Industry 4.0 as Industrie 4.0 since it comes from Germany as a way to transform their manufacturing industry. They see the emergence of new technologies have a very big impact and wanted to fully leverage this tech. Meanwhile, World Economic Forum (WEF) felt that the impact of digital transformation and various emerging technologies such as IoT, Blockchain, AI, VR/AR and others will also transform other socio economic sectors and thus widen the scope as Fourth Industrial Revolution (IR 4.0).
Meanwhile, Japan sees that technology actually impact more on the society and business. Thus, their term is more cantered towards Society i.e. from Hunting Society to Super Smart Society. It’s a good way to “humanise” technology.
