Internet of Things have been defined by many parties in their own way and thus the original definition of IoT by Kevin Ashton might have evolved further. IoT itself is a combination of several technologies from hardware to connectivity to software. Thus, it’s difficult for a person to absorbed all the various technologies without knowing how they are inter-related to each other.
The best way to understand IoT is to revisit the 7-Layers of OSI which is meant for computer networking. Each layer is depend on the layer below and above it. It’s easier to imagine how the data transverse across these layers. However, many parties have also combined the layers into 4 or 5 layers only. And some have even extended to 8 layers. But the idea of 7-Layers of OSI will give more clarity to many of us who wants to know how data can be captured and analysed.
