[Note: If anyone wants to start their hands-on IoT journey, I recommend this practical book titled “Internet of Things from Scratch: Build IoT Solutions for Industry 4.0 with ESP32, Raspberry Pi, and AWS” by Renaldi Gondosubroto. I have also written a book review about this book “Internet of Things from Scratch – Book Review“]

IoT-based Smart Poultry Farm will give a hassle-free and better observation experience to the user of the Poultry Farm. This system will use the sensors and microcontroller unit to perform the said operations of feeding, water supply, and temperature-humidity observation, which are the leading causes of epidemic or diseases for poultry birds. Introducing IoT in the system will benefit in providing ease of operation and real-time data observation through the internet to the user.

Components of Smart Poultry

The smart poultry farm consists of three major components: the poultry house, the poultry feeder, and the smart feeder. The feeder will be able to dispense the required amount of feed at the desired time to the poultry birds, and it is also capable of detecting the level of feed left. The feeder will also observe the poultry birds to see if they are hungry or full. The feeder will also be able to detect the temperature and humidity in the poultry house and inform the user about the condition of the poultry house.

Using IoT for Smart Poultry

The feeder will also be able to communicate with the poultry house via a wireless communication system so that the user can monitor the conditions in the poultry house from anywhere. The feeder will be capable of monitoring the health of the poultry birds by using sensors placed at various locations in the poultry house. The sensors will be able to monitor the temperature, humidity, air quality, and movement of the poultry birds. All these sensor data will be sent to the IoT platform such as FAVORIOT and data can be shown via a web dashboard or mobile app. The feeder will be able to dispense the required amount of feed at the desired time to the poultry birds, and it is also capable of detecting the level of feed left.

If the feed level is low, the feeder will automatically alert the user. The feeder will also be able to monitor the condition of the poultry birds by using the sensors placed at various locations in the poultry house. The feeder will also have an automated dispensing system to dispense the feed into the poultry house. This system will also have a feature to detect the feed level left in the poultry house. The feeder will have a manual dispensing system to dispense the feed into the poultry house manually. The feeder will have a wireless communication system to monitor the conditions in the poultry house from anywhere. The feeder will also be capable of monitoring the health of the poultry birds.

Future of Managing Poultry

The smart poultry farm of the future will be a part of IoT. IoT-based smart poultry farms will help us manage the bird population better by controlling how much food they eat, monitoring their eggs’ health, and even letting us know if they’re going to lay a batch of eggs before it’s due.

Using IoT Platform to Monitor

You can quickly build a Smart Poultry dashboard to monitor the environment, which includes sending alert notifications when a certain threshold is breached. The messages can be sent via email, Telegram, or SMS.

There are many IoT platforms, but it’s easier to build and customize your Smart Poultry solution via a developer-friendly IoT platform such as Favoriot. You can check out and try it out for free here.
